Our approach to science

Cycla is built on a simple idea: your body tells you how it feels every day. A 20-second check-in drives your entire session. Here's how the architecture works, what we build on, what we don't claim, and why your perception matters more than any phase label.

Philosophy

The fitness industry has a pattern: take an emerging idea, simplify it into a marketable claim, and build a product around it before the science catches up. "Cycle-syncing" followed that pattern. The core insight is real. hormones influence energy, recovery, and performance. But the leap from "hormones matter" to "your phase determines your workout" skips over a lot of nuance.

Cycla takes a different position. The check-in is the product. Your 20-second daily check-in (energy, symptoms, sleep, mood) drives your entire session. Your cycle is fully optional context. it never overrides your perception. Your conditions (18 supported) have their own adaptation logic. This architecture means Cycla works whether you have a regular cycle, an irregular one, no cycle at all, or simply don't want to track it.

Cycla's session pipeline

1. Check-in Energy, symptoms, sleep, mood. feeds into energy bucket (1-10)
2. Safety Severe pain, dizziness, extreme fatigue. session shifts to restorative
3. Conditions 18 conditions. each with its own adaptation logic and flare detection
4. Patterns Your historical data refines recommendations over time
5. Cycle (optional) Hormonal backdrop if tracked. never overrides perception

How the algorithm works

Every day, Cycla builds a session through a pipeline:

The source of every session is 'perception'. what you tell us today. Not 'phase'. Not a calendar. Your body.

What we don't claim

Honesty about uncertainty is part of how we build trust. Here's what the research doesn't yet support strongly enough for us to make definitive claims:

Our commitment

We will update our algorithm as the science evolves. If new research strengthens the case for cycle-phase-specific training, we'll build on it. If it weakens it, we'll adjust. Cycla's credibility comes from being honest about what we know and transparent about what we don't.
